Childrens Justice Center - CJC
The legislature established the program in 1986 to ensure a fair and neutral process for the handling of reports of child sexual abuse. The intent was to protect the rights of all persons involved - the victims and the alleged perpetrators. The Judiciary established the program to open the courthouse doors to children as witnesses. Specially trained professionals conduct developmentally appropriate forensic interviews, videotapes are made instead of written statements, and a special children's waiting room has been created in the Circuit Court, First Circuit, for children who will be testifying.
The Justice Center is in need of the following items: New Stuffed Animals (comfort items) Toiletries such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and the like. Toiletry Bags (to hold the items), Snacks: CJC provides snacks for the children and their family during their visits at the CJC. Underwear for both genders and all ages, Slippers for all ages and Individual Water Bottles. Although your donations may be dropped off directly at the CJC, for your tax purposes and the Judiciary fiscal guidelines, please write your donation letter receipt to the Children’s Alliance of Hawaii http://cahawaii.org, (110 Alakea Street, 4th Floor – Honolulu, Hawaii 96813), which is the non-profit organization created to coordinate the needs of the Judiciary’s Children’s Justice Center.
